Drive against drugs a ‘mess’ in K’pada

'Drug Byabahara Manisa Ku Akala Mrityumukharu Pherai Aane” (use of drugs saves one from untimely death). This was said in a loud speaker while creating an awareness rally against drugs by the Excise Department in Nikirai College Chowk under Kuturanga panchayat under Kendrapada block. As the content of the message was wrong, it created bewilderment among the masses.

The district administration in collaboration with the District Excise
Department on Saturday observed the International Day against Drugs
Abuse and Illegal Trafficking by organising meetings and flagging off
awareness chariots across the district. But the officials did not
cross check the content of the message in an audio clip.

Intellectual masses alleged that the recorded audio for creating
awareness among the locals was a faulty one. Instead of creating
awareness to skip drug, the message rather was encouraging the people
and college goers to go for drug addiction. The Exercise
Superintendent has made the whole things a mess, they said.

According to Bidhu Bhushan Mohapatra, a local, “It is not a small
mistake. The district administration and Excise Department are very
casual about the awareness campaign. The senior officials did not
cross check the content of the message in the audio clip before
playing it in public.”

When contacted, Superintendent of Excise, Suban Kumar Nayak stated it is purely unfortunate that the audio clip recorded for creating
awareness was an erroneous one. “We will rectify the audio clip,” he
told.
