DyCM sets 5-year action plan for Horticulture and Food Processing dept

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Tuesday set a 5-year action plan/roadmap for the Horticulture and Food Processing department and directed to open 17 regional food safety and testing laboratories within a stipulated time frame.

For the promotion of the food processing sector, 45 equation centres will be set up and a target has been set to establish 11 mega food/agro processing clusters. Training will be given to 21,000 entrepreneurs/farmers at the Food Science Training Centres.

Maurya has directed the officers of the Food Processing department to make every effort to promote food processing industries and ensure that maximum employment is created in this sector.

As per the new roadmap, under Prime Minister Micro Food Industry Upgradation Scheme, 41,336 units will be established/upgraded. Under this scheme, 70 per cent existing enterprises will be upgraded/expanded and 30 per cent new enterprises will be established according to the selected ODOP for the district.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana, due to the efforts of the state government, the Government of India has approved 50 projects for investment of Rs 1,116.08 crore to private sector investors in the field of food processing, of which investment has started in 48. More than one lakh people will get direct and indirect employment and the food processing sector of the state will get state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana, projects like Mega Food Park, Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure, Creation of Infrastructure for Agro Processing Cluster, Creation/ Expansion of Food Processing and Preservation Capacities, Creation of Backward and Forward Linkages are to be operated as per the provisions. There is a facility to provide 50% of the project cost in the establishment of Mega Food Park, up to a maximum of Rs 50 crore.

Thirty-five per cent of the project’s cost for storage infrastructure and 50 per cent of the cost for food processing infrastructure, maximum provision of grant of Rs 10 crore has been made under the scheme.

Under the scheme of Creation of Infrastructure for Agro Processing Cluster, there is a provision for 35 per cent of the eligible project cost, maximum grant of Rs 10 crore while under the Creation/Expansion of Food Processing and Preservation Capacity, there is a provision to provide 35 per cent of the eligible project cost to the units established in the food park, maximum grant of Rs 5 crore per unit, and 35 per cent of the eligible project cost under the Creation of Backward and Forward Linkages, up to a maximum of Rs 5 crore.

According to the roadmap, 375 large units will be set up under the Food Processing Industry Policy. The deputy CM said that the objective of the government should be to increase the income of farmers by processing and value addition of local raw materials. More and more jobs should be created and in view of the availability of sufficient quantities of raw materials and unlimited possibilities, promotion of establishment of food processing industries in the state is among the priorities of the state government.
