The sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Organisation (ACO) from Lucknow laid a trap and nabbed a clerk of the Basic Education department while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000.
The trap was laid in Hardoi and after registering a case at the Kotwali police station, the ACO team handed over the accused to the police.
According to the information received here, Mahesh Pihani, a resident of Mathura, is posted as a teacher at Jaju Para primary school. He is under suspension for the last one year. He has an arrear of around Rs 7 lakh. He was making rounds of the basic shiksha adhikari (BSA) office in Hardoi for the last several days to get the arrears released.
Reports said that one Babu Jainul, a resident of Numaish Purwa, posted in the office of the district inspector of schools located in Shaheed Udyan, had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 for the release of the money. Mahesh made several pleas but when he found that the money would not be released till he paid the bribe, he made a complaint in this regard to the ACO officials in Lucknow.
Acting on the information, the ACO team asked Mahesh to strike a deal with the clerk and on Thursday, as the transaction took place, the ACO team pounced on the clerk and held him after the bribe amount was recovered from his possession.
The ACO team registered a case against Babu in the city Kotwali and handed him over to the police.
City Kotwali Inspector Brijesh Mishra said a case was registered and the accused was sent to jail.
