A junior engineer Birendra Kumar Chowdhury of the electricity department was assaulted by a few electricity consumers at village Kuchila under the Chhipadohar police station in Latehar district.
The junior engineer sustained a fracture in his right thumb and hairline crack in his leg and wrist.
Chowdhury said he and his team were out at Kuchila village for a raid and recovery of unpaid electricity bills when this bid on his life was made.
Biswajeet Tiwary officer in charge of the Chhipadohar police station said Chowdhury has lodged an FIR against three named accused Nagender, Sanjay and Permode of Kuchila village.
The three come from the Yadav family. Nagender and Sanjay are brothers. Police officer said we are trying to arrest the three named accused.
They have fled from the village. Section 353 of the IPC has been invoked against the three for assaulting a government servant on duty. Sources said electricity officials teams don't generally inform the nearest police station for two obvious reasons.
One fear of the naxals and second public outrage. This team of the junior engineer Birendra Kumar Chowdhury too had not informed the Chhipadohar police about the raid and recovery.
Raid is against the theft of power while recovery is of long pending dues of electricity consumed.
Sources said the junior engineer team had detected power theft by way of operation of the motor pumps for irrigating the agricultural land.
This detection of theft made some three consumers of the electricity go berserk with the junior engineer Birendra Kumar Chowdhury said sources.
Man alleges to be manhandled by BPO, operator in Garhwa

A villaver was allegedly thrashed by Block Program Officer (BPO) and computer operator after he complained about payment in construction of well work at Garhwa block, on Thursday. Radheshyam Pal, a resident of hduma village around 10 km away from district headquarter. Victim Pal said that a bribe was demanded from him to pay the remaining amount in the construction of the well under MNREGA scheme. After demanding the full amount for construction of the well without paying a bribe, BPO (Block Program Officer) Hasim Ansari closed the door of the computer room where he was sitting and caught him . After this, operator Raju Kumar assaulted him, at the time when he was being assaulted, there were two-four more people in that room. Beneficiary Pal said that a well was allotted to him under MNREGA scheme in 2016. They have dug the well as per the norms and have tied it up, but they are not being paid the full amount. For this, he had reached the block office. On meeting the BPO, it was told that they do not spend money, due to which they are not being paid. Will give money, only then the amount will be paid, on refusal there was a heated argument with BPO then after closing the door, they were beaten up badly.In this regard, Garhwa BDO Kumud Kumar Jha said that Radheshyam Pal was allotted the well in the year 2016, after which his plan was closed in July 2021. A total of Rs 2.08 lakh has been paid on the basis of the measurement book adding he is taking information about the incident of assault.
