Ex-Cong MLA from Bhoa arrested in illegal mining case

Saturday, 18 June 2022 | PNS | Chandigarh

Less than a fortnight after Punjab Congress’ former Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot was arrested while search was on to nab another former Minister Sangat Singh Gilzian, party’s former MLA from Bhoa Joginder Pal was arrested by the Punjab Police on Friday in an alleged illegal mining case.

The arrest has been made on the basis of an FIR registered by Pathankot’s Taragarh police, under Section 21 of the Mining and Minerals Act, in a case of illegal sand mining a few days ago.

Acting on a specific input, the police, on June 8, had raided Krishna crushers in Kirruan and had confiscated hundreds of tonnes of PF mining material allegedly illegally excavated by the MLAs men besides recovering a machine, tipper, and tractor trolley while illegally mining the sand. It has been learnt that Krishna crusher is owned by Joginder Pal’s family.

As the police have been thoroughly investigating the case, Bhoa has been arrested, with the police claiming to make more arrests soon. As of now, the police have been holding investigations in a secret manner.

Notably, Joginder Pal’s name had also cropped up earlier on several occasions for being engaged in unauthorized excavation of material. It was alleged that with Congress being in power earlier, no action was taken against him.
