Thursday, 26 May 2022 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

The exhibition cum sale of 'Gond Paintings’ at Likhandra Exhibition Gallery' of Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum is organized every month under the name of Shalaka.

In this sequence, the exhibition of paintings of young painter Shanta Bhuria of Bhil community is being organized from Tuesday. This 25th painting exhibition will continue till May 30, 2022.

Notably, gond is one of the most unique arts of the country. It is basically a tribe of Madhya Pradesh. In ancient times, gond art was used as secret messages or codes to be sent from one place to another. Still this art is seen alive among many tribesmen. These tribesmen use gond art in their daily life, festivals and at other social events.

The spectators can have a look at the figures of birds, gods and goddesses. Gond portrays the scenes, birds, animals and human faces in dark and vibrant colours. The paintings have brown or black bases. The fine lines and geometrical figures painted in red, blue and white acrylic and oil colours make them look more appealing to the eyes.

Artist Shanta Bhuria was born in village Jhabua of Bhil dominated area, who has inherited the art. Shanta is the child of Padmashree Bhuri Bai, a famous painter of the Bhil community. At a young age, Shanta came to Bhopal with her parents and Shanta got the opportunity to grow up in an artistic environment.

Painter Shanta used to collaborate with  Bhuri Bai in her creative work and also learned to draw.

This process continued and Shanta also started marking Bhil tribal stories.
