Chhattisgarh’s fencing team clinched one more bronze medal at the 36th National Games at Gandhinagar in Gujarat on Tuesday.
The team won the championship in ‘Sabre’ event, taking the medal tally to four (two silver and two bronze).
Team Manager Akhilesh Dubey said players Reshu Sahu, Gaurav Chaudhary, Jubraj Singh and S. Viju defeated Haryana 45-44 in the quarter-final but lost 30-45 in the semi-final to the more skilled Services Sports Control Board (SSCB).
Saber team's head coach Praveen Kumar Ganware, V. Johnson Solomon and Anoop Chaudhary said the fencing team has performed well in the National Games.
They said the success came due to the hard work put in the last month before the start of the event. But the team needs more resources to train better.
Chhattisgarh Sports Minister Umesh Patel and Chef de Mission Atul Shukla congratulated the team.
Chhattisgarh now has a medal tally of three silvers (two fencing and one staking), one gold (skating) and two bronze (fencing).
