Prevention is the only cure. Therefore, pet dogs should also be given anti-rabies vaccine every year. The program has been organized to make animal lovers and the general public aware of rabies disease and advance safety measures,” he added.

This free vaccination program will be held on Wednesday from 10 am to 12 noon in the clinical complex department of the college. In which veterinary scientists and veterinary students associated with internship will also be involved. Vaccination is the only way to prevent rabies disease. Pet dog owners, animal lovers and common people can take advantage of this program by participating in it.

Rabies is a viral infectious disease. The virus is transmitted to humans through bites and scratches from infected animals. It is a deadly disease. The World Rabies Day will be celebrated on September 28 to increase awareness about its prevention.

The foundation for the prevention of rabies was laid by the famous French zoologist Louis Pasteur. He developed the first rabies vaccine in the world. World Rabies Day is celebrated every year on the occasion of his death anniversary. This day was started on September 28, 2007 by the World Health Organization (WHO). The theme of the year 2022 is 'Rabies Fact, Not Fear. Its aim is to eliminate the outbreak of rabies disease worldwide by the year 2030.

Rabies virus is mostly present in the saliva of animals suffering from rabies such as dogs, cats, monkeys and others. According to statistics, dog bite is the main cause of rabies in about 99 percent of human cases.

According to the WHO, 59,000 people worldwide die every year due to rabies disease and 90 percent of them contracted rabies from the bite of a dog infected with rabies. Rabies disease kills between 18,000 and 20,000 people in India every year. Most of these deaths are children.

In Jharkhand, more than fifty deaths occur every year due to dog bites. Every year it causes death in Ranchi. Deaths may not be high, but dog bite treatment is very expensive and the rabies vaccine has a bad effect on the kidneys.
