Gadkari, Yogi to inaugurate IRC

Sunday, 02 October 2022 | PNS | Lucknow

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the 81st annual convention of the Indian Road Congress (IRC), to be held in Lucknow after 37 years from October 8 to 11.

More than 2,500 delegates from India and abroad will participate in the event to be held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow. The last such event was held in Lucknow in 1985. This convention started in 1934. UP will host it for the fifth time.

Union Minister of State General VK Singh will also be present. Defence Minister and Lucknow MP, Rajnath Singh has been invited to the concluding session of the IRC, said the Public Works Minister Jitin Prasada in a press conference here on Saturday.

He said 200 delegates from Uttar Pradesh will also attend the IRC.

The participants will learn about the spiritual and cultural features of Ayodhya, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Mathura, and other places after the convention.

The PWD minister said under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh had emerged as ‘Expressway Pradesh.’ He said the new technology had reduced carbon emissions by around 5 million tonnes in the state.

“In order to achieve the chief minister’s goal of making the state a 1 trillion-dollar economy by 2027, the infrastructure and roadways have a specific role to play. Codes on technical topics like FDR will be brought to the convention, which will be very helpful to UP,” he said.

The minister said this was the fifth IRC session to be held in Uttar Pradesh.

“There will also be a session dedicated to UP in the event, in which we will present our best works,” Jitin Prasada said.

“There will be 19 technical sessions in all. It will be particularly effective for subjects like new road construction technologies, infrastructure, and good, affordable, long-lasting safe roads,” he said.

Technical experts from the country and abroad, state and local engineers, organisations involved in building roads and bridges, scientists and consultants will give presentations on a variety of subjects in the IRC. There will be a technical exhibition which will have 180 booths featuring information on machinery, materials, equipment, and new technologies from various road construction companies.

Along with this, visitors will be made aware of the UP artisans’ skills through One District, One Product (ODOP). During this time, a cultural event will also be planned.

The minister said the engineering students would also benefit greatly from this convention. “This will go a long way in making a career in the field of road construction and creating self-employment through start-ups. The engineers will also benefit much from this convention,” he said.
