Ganjam youth stranded in Qatar back home

After struggling for months, an Odia youth, who was stranded in Qatar, has finally reunited with his family on Wednesday.

The youth Bishnu Prasad Dakua is a resident of Shyamsundarpur village under Khallikote block in Ganjam district. He had released a video on social media seeking help of the State Government for his repatriation.

Reportedly, the youth went to Qatar in search of job and started working as a labourer. However, he was picked up by police as his visa expired. He was also put behind the bars for two months.

After getting released from the jail, he got to know that the company where he was working was closed and his visa, passport, money and mobile phone in the labour camp were taken by someone.

Finding no other option, Dakua had to stay on roads and community centres. Moreover, he was forced to beg money to arrange two square meals a day.

An Indian staying in Qatar saw him on road and helped him call his family members.

The Utkalika Qatar Samaj helped Dakua first. They constituted a special team and took care of his food, lodging and safe return. After all the necessary documents were sent from Dakua’s village, he returned home safely.

“I went outside to bring some bread and fruit juice. There I was stopped by police officials and they asked me my ID. Later, they arrested me,” said Dakua.
