Apart from five Omicron variants of Covid-19 in Chhattisgarh, the UK, Delta, Kappa and B1 variants have also been detected after whole genome sequencing, Dr Subhash Mishra, Director (Epidemic Control), announced on Wednesday.
Of the 3,842 samples sent, Omicron had only five cases. Two Omicron positives are not foreign returned, Mishra said.
Similarly, in variants of interest, the UK variant (26), Delta (1,335), Kappa (38), B1 (125) and other minor variants also have been detected in the state. The results of 352 samples are still awaited, he said.
At present the highest rates of positivity based on the samples tested is in Durg, Raigarh, Bilaspur, Narayanpur and Raipur followed by other districts. These districts also have the highest active positive cases.
On the status of surge in cases, he said people need to understand the basics of protecting themselves by following Covid appropriate behaviour (CAB).
The revised protocol for medical care states seven days of home-isolation. It has been found that those having vaccinated are having mild symptoms which can be treated and only a few cases with comorbidities are being admitted in hospital.

The vaccination drive of teenagers is expected to be completed in the next 10 days by targeting schools. The ‘precaution dose’ has also commenced in the state to cover a total 11,75,521 beneficiaries.
