Heavy rain alert issued for 5 districts

The State meteorological centre has issued an alert regarding the possibility of heavy rainfall likely to occur at a few places with very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital and Champawat districts on Wednesday. Further, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts today. Apart from this, light to moderate rainfall/thunderstorms are likely to occur at most places in the districts of the State today. Meanwhile, with the monsoon catching pace in the State the number of roads blocked in the State and resulting inconvenience is also rising. At present more than 40 roads are blocked in various parts of the State. Apart from the weather alert for five districts, the provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to experience partly to generally cloudy skies with heavy rainfall/thundershowers likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 31 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Tuesday were 34.2 degrees Celsius and 25.1 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 35 degrees Celsius and 27.8 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 23.8 degrees Celsius and 16.7 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 27.4 degrees Celsius and 20.2 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri.

Meanwhile, according to information received from the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), at least 45 roads were blocked in various parts of the State on Tuesday evening. The highways and bridle paths to Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarkashi district were open and while the national highway to Badrinath was also open in Chamoli district, 11 rural motor roads were blocked in the district. One rural motor road was blocked in Almora district while four rural motor roads were blocked in Dehradun district and one rural motor road was blocked in Champawat district. In Rudraprayag district, the Rishikesh-Kedarnath national highway 107 and Gaurikund-Kedarnath bridle path were open though two rural motor roads were blocked in the district. Two rural motor roads each were blocked in Nainital and Pauri districts while four rural motor roads were blocked in Tehri district. Similarly, nine rural motor roads were blocked in Bageshwar district while nine rural motor roads were blocked in Pithoragarh district. Efforts were underway to reopen the blocked roads.
