The Lathikatata Block Education Officer on Saturday suspended the Headmaster of a Government Upper Primary School in Sundargarh district for alleged corporal punishment to a student.
Two students of Class-V of the Nodal Upper Primary School in Lathikata were reportedly fighting in the classroom on Thursday. After a teacher saw this, he took the two students to the room of Headmaster Bairagi Arka, who allegedly beat them up with a bamboo cane.
One of the students’ hands got swollen. When he went home, his father took him to the Lathikata police station and filed a complaint. The injured boy was sent to hospital.
When the BEO got information about the incident, he asked the Assistant BEO to inquire into it. Based on the probe report, the Headmaster was suspended.
