A Home Guard allegedly attempted to rape a 44-year-old widow at the latter’s house at Kaithagadia village under the Khaira police station in Baleswar district on Monday.
The accused Purnachandra Das visited the woman’s home on the pretext of correcting the widow pension form filled by her.
Finding her alone, Das locked the door and tried to sexually assault her.
As the victim raised an alarm, the accused threatened to strangulate her.
However, the woman managed to get hold of a chopper and chased the accused. Sensing trouble Das fled from the spot abandoning his shoes, uniform at the spot.
The matter came to the fore after the victim lodged a complaint with the police. Based on her complaint, the Khaira police have registered a case and started an investigation.
