In a surprise raid, a team of City Council, Garhwa seized a large quantity of banned plastic from a wholesale shop at Marketing board premises, on Thursday.
After conducting a confidential investigation and confirmation on this, a city council team led by himself conducted a surprise raid at Marketing Board premises and around one tractor trolley banned plastic recovered from a wholesale shop, said Executive Officer Sanjay Kumar.
Seeing the action, many warehouse owners in the neighborhood ran away after shutting down their shops.
The proprietor Yusuf Azaad was not only storing the plastic but also selling it , Kumar added.
However, many godowns have been identified on the behest of the local people, on which action will be taken soon with the cooperation of the Marketing Secretary.
Sanjay Kumar said that in this raid more than 12,000 thermocol plates, more than 21000 plastic glasses and more than 15000 thermocol bowls were recovered. All the above items were brought to the city council office.
Executive Officer Sanjay Kumar said that despite constant warnings and strict actions, there are continuous reports of storage, transportation and sale of single use plastic in large quantities in the city. Therefore, strictness will continue from the side of the city council.
City Manager Mayur Gehlot, CLTC Ajit Kumar Singh, Bindu Ram, Raj Kumar, Anil Kumar, Govind Kumar etc. were part of the surprise raid.
