CM INAUGURATES J’SUGUDA VEDANTA ALUMINIUM PARK  
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday at the Make in Odisha Conclave in the presence of Vedanta Aluminium Chairman Anil Agarwal inaugurated the Vedanta Aluminium Park at Jharsuguda in virtual mode. The park is a joint venture between Vedanta and the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO). The park will be a world-class industrial facility where companies can set up their manufacturing units and draw molten aluminium from Vedanta’s smelter at Jharsuguda to manufacture their products. 

ATIBADI AWARDEE PROF ACHARYA NO MORE  
Brahmapur: Eminent literary critic and former Head of PG Department of Odia, Berhampur University, Prof Sudarshan Acharya passed away on Thursday due to old age-related complications. Prof Acharya had joined the university in 1969 and retired in 1999.  A masterly scholar in Odia, Sanskrit and Telugu literature, Prof Acharya was conferred with the coveted Atibadi Jagannath Das Award in 2006 for enriching literature. A was a versatile writer, literary critic, translator and book editor. He is credited with writing 27 books which brought wide acclaim for him. 

AIDS DAY OBSERVED AT PPA HOSPITAL  
Paradip: The World AIDS Day was observed at the PPA Hospital. A walkathon was part of the activity to create awareness about AIDS among denizens of the port township starting at PPA Hospital and ending at the Officers’ Club. Paradip Ladies’ Club vice-president Suchismita Bose flagged off the walkathon. The staffs of PPA Hospital, Saksharata Samiti and volunteers wore symbolic red ribbon to commemorate the occasion. Further, a screening camp for truckers was organised in association with CASD/IRDMS. 

ECOR GM INSPECTS CUTTACK-PARADEEP RLY SECTION 
Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway General Manager Roop Narayan Sunkar on Thursday inspected the developmental works in the Cuttack-Paradeep railway section. He also reviewed the developmental railway works in Paradip. Khurda Road DRM Rinkesh Roy and other Principal Heads of the Departments of ECoR were present. 

JHARSUGUDA TO HAVE ITDA; NABA DAS HAPPY
Jharsuguda: Health and Family Welfare Minister and Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kisore Das has welcomed the proposed declaration of Laikera and Kirmira blocks as tribal benefit blocks and setting up of an Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) in Jharsuguda district. He said that arguing in favour of declaration of tribals-dominated Laikera and Kimira blocks as tribal benefit blocks, he had presented a strong demand for all-round development of the local tribals. Realising the validity of the demand, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sent the proposal to the Central Government for its approval. By setting up an ITDA, special financial assistance will be available for tribal welfare in Jharsuguda district, Das said.

WOMAN DEAD, HUBBY HURT IN B’SWAR FIRE MISHAP
Baleswar: In a mysterious fire mishap on Tuesday night at Tarabudhia village under the Singla police station, a woman died and her husband suffered severe burn injuries and was admitted to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack. The deceased was identified as Rina Khanda (21). The couple had gone to sleep after dinner. Feeling something unusual, Rina’s husband woke up and saw fire engulfing her body. He tried to douse the flames and in the process he suffered injuries. It was yet to be ascertained whether the mishap was accidental or there was any conspiracy by Rina’s husband and in-laws. Police began a probe.

CHHATRAPUR DRDA PD TAKES OVER AS BU REGISTRAR 
BRAHMAPUR: Senior OAS officer Sachidananda Nayak who is currently working as Project Director of DRDA at Chhatrapur has been appointed as the Registrar of Berhampur University. A notification from the Chancellor’s Secretariat (Raj Bhavan) was issued to this effect on November 28. The post of Registrar of Berhampur University was lying vacant for last few days. Prof Prasana Kumar Swain was in charge of the post. 

R’GADA WALKERS’ CLUB TO HOLD KABBADI TOURNEY 
Rayagada: The Walkers’ Club, Rayagada, will organise a Kabbadi tournament for high school students for both boys and girls on December 2 and 3 at the Old Vivekananda School ground. Inauguration function will be held at 7.30 am. The Kabbadi Committee has solicited the presence and co operation of all Walkers’ Clubs of district. Walkers Jogeswar Das, Deepak Kumar Prusty, Dr K Salvaraju among others will lead the event.
