Punjab to amend sports policy for honouring sportspersons

Ludhiana: Admitting flaws in Punjab’s existing sports policy, the state’s Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Wednesday announced to make amendments and fix all flaws.  “The existing sports policy has several flaws due to which Punjab has lagged in sports at the national level. Giving cash prizes to winners of international tournaments, such as Thomas Cup and others, is sadly not part of our existing sports policy. Soon, the sports policy would be amended and all flaws would be fixed,” said Hayer, who met Thomas Cup winner and Ludhiana-resident Dhruv Kapila.  He said that with the historical victory in Thomas Cup, Dhruv has not only made Punjabis proud, but has also brought laurels to the country.  Hayer also assured that the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann would be meeting Dhruv in person soon. “The previous governments developed sports stadiums in Punjab, but failed to develop grounds. They even failed to provide basic sports kits to our sportspersons. The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government would give special emphasis for development of sports at grassroots level so that we can regain our lost glory,” he said.
