Increased rates of electricity implemented in October

Sunday, 02 October 2022 | Staff Reporter | bhopal

Stating October, once again the electricity rates have been increased. Now, if you consume 200 units of electricity, then from this month you will have to pay Rs 22 more. In the midst of rising inflation, the increase in electricity rates will definitely bring a heavy burden on the pockets of the general public.

The Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) has been increased by 10 paise. After which consumers will now have to pay 20 paise FCA instead of 10 paise per unit. The same increased rates came into effect from 1 October.

In fact, the government compensates for 100 units of electricity by giving subsidy to the power companies. Therefore, consumers up to 100 units will not suffer any loss due to increase in electricity rates at present, but if you consume electricity up to 200 units, then from the month of October, you will have to pay Rs 22 extra in addition to the old rates of electricity.

In this case, CGM Shailendra Saxena, in-charge of the power management company, says that the fuel cost is determined by the power company every 3 months. The cost for this is fixed by the regulatory commission. The rate of FCA is determined on the basis of cost of coal, transportation and fuel in generating electricity. Apart from electricity rates, power companies also charge fuel cost adjustment charges from consumers.

After the new increase, after consuming up to 50 units, the current rate would have been Rs 307 while the new rate would be Rs 313. However, due to subsidy, consumers will have to pay only Rs 100 bill up to 50 units as before.

For consumption by consumers up to 100 units, the existing rate is Rs 648, while the new rate has been fixed at Rs 659, due to subsidy up to 100 units, the bill will be treated as Rs 100 only.

Whereas, on consumption of up to 200 units, the consumer will have to pay a new rate of Rs 1589 instead of the existing rate of Rs 1567. No subsidy has been given for this.

Whereas consumers had to pay the existing rate of Rs 2475 for consumption of up to 300 units, but now according to the new rate, they will have to pay Rs 2509. No subsidy has been given for this.
