Tuesday, 17 May 2022 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Ailing elephant ‘Nanda’ died at the Chandaka-Dampara sanctuary here in the wee hours on Monday.

The tusker was suffering from fever. However, the exact cause of the death can be known after autopsy of its body, a forest official said.

According to reports, the animal showed symptoms of illness on May 14. Next day, a team of experts from the OUAT were engaged for its treatment.

Nanda, a trained kumki elephant, was born in 1987 at the Nandankanan Zoological Park. It was shifted to Kumarakhunti of Chandaka in October 2010 where the animal was trained to prevent the menace of stray elephants.
