L-G inaugurates 41 renovated science labs in 21 MCD schools

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation of several initiatives, including 41 Science Labs of 21 Schools renovated by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to foster Scientific Temper among students and  the foundation stone of the World class sports infrastructure of the International Cricket cum Football Stadium with a seating capacity of 30000 people in the national Capital.

While inaugurating the science labs of NDMC Schools, Saxena congratulated 6700 students of 21 NDMC schools who will be benefitted from the 41 Science labs and underlined that this is an era of science and without science and scientific temper, no step forward for socio-economic and human advancement could be envisaged. The science labs are equipped with advanced infrastructure and resources, aim at fostering a scientific temper among the students at an early age.On the occasion, the LG also felicitated all meritorious students with certificates and a prize of ten thousand rupees each to those who scored the best result in their board examinations.

The LG has also laid the foundation stone of the World class sports infrastructure of the International Cricket cum Football Stadium with a seating capacity of 30000 people in the national capital.The Project is spread over 51 acres and is the first project of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in Public Private Partnership mode. The area of the sports facility is 6.4 Lakh sq.ft, the total estimated project cost is Rs.350 crore. The stadium will also have 3.45 Lakh sq.ft. of commercial facilities. Speaking on the occasion, Saxena said that once the facility will be completed it will provide world class sports infrastructure, with the International Cricket cum Football Stadium having a seating capacity of 30000. “In addition, there will be indoor multi-sports facilities with a seating capacity of 2000, sports club with minimum 3000 membership, other facilities for sports such as swimming, tennis, badminton, squash, table tennis.

 

 

The facilities will also be available to the local community on pay and play basis. This project will, apart from changing the face of Dwarka sub-city, also promote sporting events in the  Capital,” Saxena said.

On the other hand, the LG also inaugurated a newly constructed school of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in Okhla.

Speaking on the occasion,  Saxena said that this school will provide quality education to hundreds of children, particularly those from the lower strata of society.

The LG said that all efforts will be made to bring the school at par with the best schools in terms of infrastructure and quality of education. To upgrade primary education in Delhi, new schools are being constructed and upgraded by the MCD so that a larger number of students can avail of better education in civic body schools. The LG said that despite limited resources, continuous work is being done for the enhancement of education by MCD. 1535 schools are being run by the corporation and 44 schools are aided by it, wherein a total of 8.7 lakh children are studying at present.

 The LG also inaugurated "We Care" - Delhi Police Community policing initiative in a glittering  event at Kartvaya Path, India Gate. The aim of this initiative is to spread awareness amongst the people regarding different schemes/Initiatives of Delhi Police to maintain coordination with public and establish police – public interface.
