With an aim to convert the national Capital into a “City of Gardens”, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Sunday visited the “Garden of Five Senses” and took the stock of the redevelopment work planned at the garden. The Lieutenant Governor has directed officials to complete the redevelopment work within six months. The deadline of the redevelopment of the project is October 2024.

According to the statement released by the LG office, the  proposed redevelopment work includes providing easy access to the Garden, creating public amenities, e-carts and art installations, landscape upgradation, solar powered electric installations, new water harvesting system, modernized garbage disposal, online ticketing, and CCTV surveillance within the premises,” it said.

“While appreciating the unique concept and aesthetic appeal of the Garden which is catering to Delhi’s need for leisure and recreational public spaces, Saxena directed the officials to create better public utilities, at the earliest, so as to cause least inconvenience to the visitors,” the statement said.

“Th LG also asked the officials to develop a dedicated herbal garden on the lines of ‘Arogya Van’ and various other gardens developed at the Statue of Unity at Kevadia in Gujarat that houses thousands of ornamental flowers and a variety of rare and exquisite medicinal herbs,” it said.

“With the abundance of flora in the garden and its surroundings, the LG also instructed setting up an apiary at the garden that would be a new learning experience for the school children while also creating awareness about beekeeping and its significance to the ecosystem,” it stated.

Earlier, the Lieutenant Governor visited MCD Partibha school in Ashok Vihar along with top officials of the corporation. Addressing the teachers and staff present on the occasion, Saxena promised to take schools run by the MCD to highest standards by providing the best teaching, technological and physical infrastructure to them.

For this purpose, as a pilot 25 schools had already been identified and work will be started in them at the earliest. The same would gradually be undertaken in all other remaining schools run by MCD, he informed. The LG ensured the teachers that he will do everything possible to provide them with an enabling work atmosphere and exhorted them to put in their best by remaining consistently updated and proactive, so that their students are shaped mentally as well as academically at par with the best amongst their peers.

This visit was to carry forward his "agenda of taking the MCD and the institutions under it to newer heights in a mission mode," it said.
