LG asks officers to remain vigilant over Covid spread

Expressing concern over increasing coronavirus cases in the national Capital, the Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, on Monday directed officials to remain vigilant and not let guard down to prevent the spread of the disease.

He also emphasized upon need for enforcement and also appealed to people of city to voluntarily adhere to Covid appropriate behaviour. The meeting was chaired by LG a meeting to review COVID situation in national capital along with Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.  During meeting, LG who is also Chairperson of Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) also discussed about persistent cases of Dengue and other vector borne diseases which are being reported despite season not being favorable to its spread. As per statement released by LG office, underlining  need of enhanced testing coupled with focus on strategy of test, track, treat and vaccinate to successfully fight pandemic, the LG also instructed officials to ensure genome sequencing of cases being reported so as to proactively address prevalence of any new variant.

“While appreciating the high percentages achieved in various categories of vaccination in Delhi, the LG also pointed towards the relatively low figures of precautionary doses that had been administered and advised officials to take necessary steps to enhance them through a public outreach program,” it said.

“Reviewing the status of vector borne diseases in Delhi, “upon being informed that the Domestic Mosquito Breeding Checkers (DBCs) were manually recording the houses visited and inspection done, the LG directed for the system to be automated wherein DBC concern could instantly upload a picture of the house and its residents visited along with the picture of evidences of breeding and mosquitogenic condition found, if any,” it stated.

 

“Similarly, on being informed that more than 6,000 prosecution proceedings had been launched by MCD where the defendant would have to physically be present before a Magistrate, the LG issued instructions for a system of e-Courts for disposal of these cases to be put in place, so that people are not harassed and unnecessarily inconvenienced.  Systems to this effect should be put in place by June, 30th the LG instructed,” the statement further said.

 

During the meeting several officials of the concerned department including Special Officer of the MCD, Commissioner of the MCD and Secretary of Health and Family Welfare were present.
