A lovesick youth shot a girl and later tried to end his life in Bewar locality of Mainpuri.
The girl died in the district hospital, while the youth was referred to the medical college hospital in Saifai. His condition is stated to be serious.
SP Mainpuri inspected the spot.
Reports said that on Wednesday evening, the police got information that a 20-year-old girl identified as Soni Shakya of Kajitola in Bewar was stalked by 22-year-old Ankit Shakya of Basalt Vairagpur hamlet of Kishni also in Mainpuri. The youth wanted the girl to marry him but when she spurned him and threatened to file a police complaint, the youth decided to take revenge.
On Wednesday evening, when the girl was going somewhere in connection with work, Ankit followed her and on reaching a secluded place, he opened fire on the girl and she collapsed in a pool of blood. The youth later opened fire on himself to commit suicide.
The police shifted both to the district hospital where Soni was pronounced dead while the doctors referred Ankit to Saifai Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences after finding his condition critical.
Circle Officer of Bhogaonm Chandrakesh Singh, along with the inspector-in-charge reached the spot and made an inspection. They sent the body for autopsy. Further investigations are on.
Meanwhile in Jaunpur, 55-year-old Atul Singh was shot dead by his nephew over a property related dispute. The incident took place on Wednesday night in Babhniyav village of Mirganj.
After taking the main accused into custody, the police are searching for his absconding accomplice.
Reports said that Atul Singh, a native of Mahrupur village under Jafrabad police station lived in the house of his sister, Pushpa Singh, in Bambhaniya for many years. Atul Singh used to have a land dispute with his nephew Suraj Singh alias Prashant Singh. It is alleged that Suraj Singh, who arrived with his associate late on Wednesday night, opened fire at Atul Singh and fled from the spot.
The seriously injured Atul Singh was taken to the community health centre at Machhlishahr from where the doctors sent him to the district hospital but he succumbed to his injuries in the wee hours of Thursday.
A case was registered on the complaint of Mukhtar Singh alias Vijay Pratap Singh, brother-in-law of deceased Atul Singh. It has been alleged that Suraj Singh had threatened to kill Atul Singh about a week ago.
ASP (Rural) Shailendra Kumar Singh said that Suraj Singh was taken into custody after registering a case and efforts were on to arrest his associate identified as Bakatu alias Tiger, a resident of Kajgaon area of Zafarabad.
