With continuous rains lashing Chhattisgarh, special care should be given to children as they are susceptible to diseases like cold, cough and diarrhea, Raipur Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr Meera Baghel said on Wednesday.
Issuing advisory to parents, she said children also complain of fever, headache and sometimes constipation and loss of appetite after they get drenched in drizzle. Children are also affected by dengue and malaria.
She said with the rainy season, children are more prone to diseases as they get wet either due to rain or muddy water. As water is a carrier of many diseases, it can cause flu, viral fever, diarrhea, typhoid, hepatitis, jaundice and other diseases.
Parents should ensure children wearing full sleeve clothes when they go out to play. They should be told not to get into the stagnant water.
A mosquito net should be used to avoid flies and mosquitoes. Keep a clean environment at home and regularly clean with phenyl, the official said.
If symptoms of diseases appear, consult a doctor immediately, she said.
