Money demand-- Woman killed by son on Mother’s Day

Saturday, 14 May 2022 | RAJESH BEHERA | KENDRAPADA

A sexagenarian woman at Kanapur under Rajkankika police station was killed by her son for not providing her money on the Mother’s Day (May 8) night.

Rajkanika police on Wednesday arrested main accused Sajit Barik (36) and his brother in law Nirakar Nayak and forwarded them to court. Nirakar faced the music for helping Sajit dispose of the body, informed Pattamundai SDPO Sandhya Rani Behuria.

Sanjit used to stay in Gujurat with his family. He demanded his 60-year- old mother, Droupadi Barik, to provide him money by selling a parental property. Despite his persistent demands, his mother did not pay any heed and did not sell a land. Sanjit had returned to his village on May 8. After an altercation between him and his mother, he got berserk and killed his mother by strangulating her neck and fled the spot.

On May 9, the locals and the neighbours came across Droupadi lying dead and blood oozing from her ear and nose. They informed to Sanjit. Sanjit replied the neighbours that he would reach within 2 hours as he was in Kharagpur. As a result, some locals smelt foul play, as some of them had seen Sanjit in the village on May 8 evening. Sanjit later returned to the village and hurriedly conducted the funeral rites of her deceased mother with the help of his brother-in-law Nirakar. However, during interrogation by police, Sanjit confessed to the crime, informed the SDPO.
