Police in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur city have booked a Madhya Pradesh-based doctor for demanding extortion from a woman physician by threatening to circulate her morphed obscene images on social media.
A police case was filed against Dr Ashok Dante based on a complaint from the victim’s husband who is also a doctor and runs a private hospital here on Saturday night, Bilaspur Senior Superintendent of Police Parul Mathur said.
As per the complaint, the woman doctor was in Chitrakoot in Satna district in Madhya Pradesh between 2017 and 2020 during her medical studies during which she got acquainted with Dante, she said.
When the victim woman returned here after her studies, Dante demanded Rs 50 lakhs from her threatening to make her morphed obscene photos viral if his demand was not fulfilled, the officer said.
When she ignored his demand, a ‘threat letter’ was allegedly sent by the accused to the woman’s doctor father-in-law at his clinic via courier on March 21 this year, the officer said.
The accused doctor also sent threatening messages on March 30 to the mobile phone of the victim’s mother-in-law, she added.
Fed up, the victim woman's husband lodged a complaint. Police registered a case of extortion, Mathur added.
