Chhattisgarh will observe the annual National Nutrition Month from September 1 to acquaint the general public the importance of nutrition and inculcating healthy behaviour with a well-nourished diet. It will end on September 30.
Divya Umesh Mishra, Director, Women and Child Development Department, in a letter to all the district Collectors and District Programme Officers has issued guidelines to organize the event.
The letter asks the officials to create awareness on health, nutrition and sanitation related services among the public.
The active participation of public representatives, representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions and local bodies as well as women self-help groups must be ensured to spread the message, an official communication said on Wednesday.
In the current year, the focus is on women and health, child and education, child and nutrition, gender sensitivity, water conservation and management, and traditional diet for women and children of tribal areas.
The Anganwadi workers and Mitanin in villages will record the weight and height of children. They will discuss with villagers the importance of nutritional care. Workshops will be held at school level on women's health, nutrition and cleanliness.
Panchayats will ensure that prenatal and postnatal checkup is conducted among women to check anemia.
Awareness programmes on obesity and diabetes and online yoga sessions will also be organized.
