NDMC slams Delhi Govt over shortage of water

Wednesday, 25 May 2022 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Tuesday wrote a letter to Delhi Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal regarding the shortage of water supply in the New Delhi area from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) causing water scarcity.
The national Capital is witnessing an acute water crisis for the last couple of days as the Haryana Government has allegedly not been releasing Delhi’s rightful share of water in the Yamuna river despite repeated reminders and requests by the Delhi Government.
Addressing the media, NDMC member, Kuljeet Singh Chahal informed, “It is being felt that NDMC area is deprived of its legitimate share of potable water for the last 15 days and the average supply of water is between 60-70 MLD in place of the normal supply of 125 MLD. The problem of drinking water in our Government, non-Government, private residential colonies, as well as slums, is making life difficult.”
“This stepmotherly treatment to the NDMC is not only affecting the normal life of residents but it is also against the legitimate right of the residents. Water is the basic need of life and the reduction in water supply is making life painful,” he said.
“There is not enough water in the reservoir source of the civic body, even to send the tanker from the NDMC central water control room to the needed area,” he added.
Meanwhile, the NDMC also wrote a letter to the CM regarding his absence from council meetings and urged him to attend them for the interest, benefit, and welfare of the residents.
Chahal stated that Kejriwal did not attend council meetings on 31.03.20221, 07.01.2022, 23.02.2022 and 30.03.2022, in which 26 items were approved in the interest of the public like “Har Ghar Jal Yojna”, “Swachchta-Chatravriti” and “Redevelopment of Hanuman Vatika.”
Chahal has written in the letter that the absence of the CM shows that he is boycotting these schemes. He is always talking about the Delhi model but his mindset is zero in the name of development in the NDMC area.
Chahal urged the CM to attend the meetings in the interest, benefit and welfare of the residents, who vote for him and elected him as their MLA.
