New BrahMos version tested

Friday, 21 January 2022 | PNS | BALESWAR

A new version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was test-fired off the coast here on Thursday, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) sources said.

Equipped with new technology, the missile was test-fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) launch pad-3 at Chandipur at 10.45 am.

Notably, the DRDO had successfully test-fired an improved sea-to-sea variant of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from INS Visakhapatnam (destroyer) on January 11. It hit the designated target ship precisely.

The BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile jointly developed by Russian design bureau NPO Mashinostroyeniya and the DRDO. The missile was first test-fired in 2001. It can strike with a range up to 400 km in the air and 500 km on surface and sea platforms.
