Gurugram: As many as 100-150 youths have been booked by the Gurugram Police for allegedly disrupting and blocking the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway at Bilaspur Chowk in protest against the Agnipath scheme, even as the Gurugram district administration imposed Section 144 CrPC as a precautionary measure.

Veer Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Pataudi) said around 100-150 youths have been booked at the Bilaspur Police Station for blocking the National Highway and stopping vehicle movement on both sides of the expressway for several hours on Thursday.

"The police had asked the protesters to vacate the expressway but despite instructions, they continued sitting and disrupted the traffic movement, which led to major traffic congestion on the National Highway," Singh said.

"We are trying to identify the protesters with the help of videography and CCTVs installed at the spot. Action will be taken against those involved in the protest as per the law," he added.

Police have registered an FIR in connection with the incident.

Earlier on Friday, the Gurugram district administration imposed Section 144 CrPC even though no fresh protest was reported here. "Orders were issued as a precautionary measure to maintain the law and order situation in district Gurugram," SDM Gurugram Ankita Chowdhary said.

Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav said the order was issued as protests were likely to spread to the second day here and that the administration anticipated angry crowd at railway stations, bus stands, markets, national highways and power grids among other places in the district.
