U SAMMILANI PAYS TRIBUTE TO VYSAKABI  (Pix)

Bhubaneswar: The Utkal Sammilani Mancheswar Industrial Estate branch on Wednesday paid rich tributes to Vyasakabi Fakir Mohan Senapati on his 104th death anniversary by garlanding his statue at the entrance of Utkal University. A meeting was held under the chairmanship of branch president Dillip Dashshrama where speakers Assembly Special Officer Amulya Swain, Utkal Sammilani branch vice-presidents Dr Surendra Mishra, Sheetal Mohanty and Prassana Rath recalled the contributions of Senapati for enriching Odia language and uniting Odia people. Utkal Sammilani branch secretary Basanti Tripathy, joint secretary Siddhartha Shankar Garnayak and Maheswar Biswal also spoke.

 

VSS NAGAR SENIOR CITIZENS GIVE CLOTHES TO LEPROSY PATIENTS  (Pix)

Bhubaneswar: The Senior Citizens’ Forum of VSS Nagar here observed the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day at the leprosy patients’ Jagannath Colony in Mancheswar on Wednesday. Forum general secretary Er Suresh Chandra Kar, secretary Gouri Shankar Praharaj, treasurer Bhramarbar Pradhan and members Debendra kumar Biswal, Maheswar Biswal and Dr Kumud Chandra Mishra distributed clothes among the senior citizens of the colony.

 

SWEETY HOUSING COMPLEX PHASE-2 CELEBRATES RAJA  (Pix)

Bhubaneswar: The Ganga Nagar Sweety Housing Complex Phase-2 consisting of 60 houses and its adjacent many houses celebrated the Raja festival in its community centre. Girls and women played Puchi game and Doli (swing). Song, dance, quiz, cake (Pitha) making competitions were held among them. Prize money was awarded to the first three consecutive winners in the competitions. Society president Sivananda Mohapatra, secretary Niranjan Mishra, treasurer Sibani Prasad Pattnaik along with local young men conducted the festival. Cultural programmes and other competitions were conducted by Kalpataru Swain, Somanath Ratha and Raj Kishore Panda.

 

BLOOD DONOR DAY HELD AT PARADIP PORT  (Pix)
Paradip: The Port Health Office, Paradip, celebrated the World Blood Donor Day on Tuesday in its premises. Health Officer Dr Rajendra Narayan Panigrahi presided. Dr Panigrahi deliberated about the importance of the day and stressed on the need to raise awareness for safe blood transfusion and blood products and voluntary or unpaid blood donation for saving lives. He said blood donation is necessary for a healthy living.  He informed that in future blood donation camps and other awareness activities will be taken up at Paradip at a large scale. A pledge was taken by the participants at the event to donate blood.

 

BU BIOTECH DEPT HOLDS ANTIBIOTICS AWARENESS  (Pix)
Brahmapur: The Post-Graduate Department of Biotechnology, Berhampur University, on Monday organised a general awareness uses and misuses of antibiotics here at Prem Nagar. The outreach programme was sponsored by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) under the Government of India. SERB principal investigator Dr Saswat Sourav Mohapatra, Sambit Kumar Dwibedy and Indira Padhy discussed the various uses and the common misuses of the antibiotics. The speakers at the meeting explained the bane of antibiotics overdose in agriculture and animal feeds.

 

6 OF FAMILY INJURED IN CRACKER BLAST IN GANJAM

Brahmapur: Six members of a family sustained severe injuries in an explosion while making firecrackers in a house at Beruhabadi village under the Kodala police limits in Ganjam district on Wednesday. They were rushed to the Kodala Hospital. As the conditions of five among them deteriorated, they were shifted to the MKCG Medical College Hospital in Brahmapur.

 

GIRL DIES, COLLEAGUE HURT IN ROAD ACCIDENT IN K’HANDI

Bhawanipatna: A girl died and another was seriously injured in a road accident on Wednesday when their bike slipped on the Nalachuan bridge near Mandibasi village of Kasipur block. The deceased was identified as Sonam Mohanty, 19. Her colleague Anjan Naik, who sustained severe head injury, was initially taken to the Kasipur CHC and later shifted to the Koraput District Headquarters Hospital. Sonam was a resident of Lanjigarh Road and Anjan hails from Bhawanipatna. Both were working in an NGO and going to Kasipur for a survey work.

 

6 BUFFALOES RUN OVER BY TRUCK AT R UDAYAGIRI  (Pix)

Paralakhemundi: Six buffaloes were killed and two seriously injured when a truck hit them near the Sub-Jail of R Udayagiri on Wednesday.

The buffaloes were crossing the road and going to graze in a field. Locals blocked the road for seven long hours demanding compensation for the buffalo owner. The truck owner reached the spot and got the matter sorted out.

 
PWC OPENS NEW OFFICE IN BHUBANESWAR

Bhubaneswar: The PwC India on Wednesday announced the opening of its new office in Bhubaneswar. It aims to tap into the multi-skilled talent pool of Odisha and neighbouring regions. It plans to hire 500 people in Bhubaneswar over the next three years. This expansion is in line with the firm’s commitment to create 10,000 additional jobs in the country in next five years. PwC India chairman Sanjeev Krishan said, “Our talent pool is no longer centred in metro cities; and we are looking to leverage the wealth of skilled professionals in other cities too.”

 

MOCK DRILL WITH NDRF AT VEDANTA PREMISES  (Pix)

Jharsuguda: A joint mock drill with the NDRF was conducted by the Vedanta Aluminium Company at the Vedants premises. It was completed with the participation of all workers and business associates of the Vedanta project to create awareness about safety requirements.
