Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey on Monday said the Chhattisgarh Shakambhari Board has been constituted to encourage farmers involved in vegetable cultivation.
Horticulture crops should also be promoted in the state to get the benefit of government schemes, he said.
Choubey was addressing the inauguration of the new office of the Board at the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University Campus at Labhandi (Jora).
Board Chairman Ramkumar Patel and members Dukhvaram Patel, Anurag Patel, Hari Patel and Pawan Patel were present.
The Minister said: ‘Chherchera Shakambhari Jayanti’ has a special importance in local life in the state. It is a festival of giving, charity and social harmony. It eliminates the difference between big and small.
"‘Maa Shakambhari’ is adorned with vegetables and worshiped. It is the reason that Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has declared a holiday on this occasion."
He said the Board has been constituted with the sole objective of promoting the cultivation of vegetables, fruits and spices in the state.
