The State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) with cooperation of the Sundargarh district administration organised a public hearing on Wednesday in the project area of the proposed capacity expansion of JSW Gonua iron ore mines near Koira.
The hearing witnessed participation of 2,000 people from 10 adjoining villages and 60 local residents who presented their views before Government officials on the likely impact of the plant expansion project.
Sundargarh ADM Shiv Shankar Toppo and SPCB Rourkela RO BB Dash were present.
JSW Steel Mines Operations Head (Odisha) Biswaranjan Kumar Padhi said the company is planning to expand the mines from present capacity 1.2 MT to 2.99 MT and this would create employment for around 800 local people.
