Puri outfit to take fight to every part of State

The Shreemandira Suraksha Avijan, an outfit of lawyers, activists, journalists, political workers and heritage lovers, formed against the controversial Parikrama Project of the Jagannath Temple, would take its fight to every nook and cranny of Odisha.

Unveiling its roadmaps, the outfit members said they would travel across the State for distribution of leaflets among people to create awareness on the goof-ups involved in the Heritage Corridor project.

After Shankarcharya’s fiery reactions on Wednesday against the illegal demolition of mutts and monasteries for the project, the forum urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to stop works and resign taking moral responsibility for violation of laws.

“It is clear that without permission from the ASI and the NMA, the Government is illegally working within the prohibited zone. So, the CM should first stop the illegal works and resign on moral ground for violation of laws,” urged rights activist Dillip Baral, who has filed a petition in the Orissa High Court against the project.

The Jagannath Sena also lodged a petition in the CBI office at Bhubaneswar for an investigation into the illegalities in implementation of the Parikrama Marg project for the Jagannath Temple.

Meanwhile, the outbursts of Sankarcharya that the Government was changing Puri from a ‘Tapobhumi’ to a ‘Bhogbumi’ by demolishing the mutts and ancient monuments which would invite the ire of the gods and goddess leading to a disaster for the State in future have created a furor in Puri. The irate seer had gone on to say, “Let not the Jagannath dham turn into place of Sura and Sundari (wine and women).
