Rail Roko in Ganjam disrupts traffic

The members of several organisations and citizens’ committee of industrials town Ganjam on Tuesday staged a Rail Roko at  the Ganjam railway station demanding stoppage of the Puri-Tirupati  and  Hirakhanda Express trains.

 

Hundreds of protesters stopped the Hirakhanda Express and sat in a dharna before the train at Ganjam railway station in the early hours to press their demands. As a result the railway traffic was affected and movement of trains stopped for some time in the East Coast Railway line. Only after getting written assurance from the railway officials for stoppage of these two trains from the first- week of June, they called off their agitation.

 

Khordha Divisional Commercial Manager Girish Chandra Nayak, Berhampur GRP SDRPO Chandra Sekhar Sahu, Chatrapur IIC Satya Ranjan Pradhan and Ganjam SI Ajit Kumar Parida discussed with the agitators. The protest was led by Bhagirathi Reddy, Santosh Reddy, Sanatan Behera, Lingaraj Patnayak, Binod Chandra Padhy, Gouri Samkar Bariki, Laxmi Padh, Purusottam Sahu, Arun Panda, Durga Madhab Panigrahy and Sudam Jena.
