Even as the recovery rate has shown an improvement, at least 20 people died of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours as Uttar Pradesh logged 8,901 new cases on Thursday. However, during the corresponding period, 16,786 people recovered from the viral infection.

At present, there are 72,393 active cases in the state.

“More than 98 per cent of people are recovering at home with minor symptoms,” Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said.

During a meeting of Team 9 in Lucknow on Thursday, the chief minister said that there was a steady decline in the number of active cases and positivity rate. He said that more than 25.34 crore Covid vaccinations had been administered in the state covering more than 98.58 per cent of the adult population with the first dose of the vaccine so far, while 66.87 per cent of the people had received both doses.

"Our target is to administer the first dose to 100 per cent of the population and the second dose to nearly 75 per cent of the eligible citizens by January 31. In any case, it should be ensured that every resident of the state gets the vaccine cover before voting," Yogi said.

Of the more than 1.40 lakh adolescents in the age group of 15-17, 85.21 lakh or 61 per cent have got the vaccine cover. Similarly, as per the target till January 31, 73 per cent of the eligible people will also receive the booster dose.
