Restrictions on Swargadwar funeral lifted

Saturday, 29 January 2022 | PNS | PURI

The Puri district administration has withdrew the restrictions it had imposed on observance of funeral rites of the deceased from other districts and States at the Swargadwar in Puri. It has also lifted the restrictions on immersion of ashes at the sea.

The decisions were taken in view of the decreasing trend of Covid-19 cases in Puri district, including the Puri Municipality area.

Issuing a set of guidelines for funeral rites at the Swargadwar, the official order stated that a maximum of 10 persons are allowed to accompany the deceased.

The Puri Sub-Collector has been directed to keep a close watch on strict implementation of the order and take appropriate action in case of difficulties.

Notably, the Puri administration had imposed the restrictions on funeral of deceased from outside the district on January 7, 2022 to contain spread of Covid-19.
