Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday said the role of tribal society was important in making the country independent. They are also contributing for the progress of the nation and society.
Chhattisgarh had great tribal men and freedom fighters like Shaheed Gundadhur, Paralkot Zamindar Shaheed Gaindsingh Nayak and Sonakhan Zamindar Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh who sacrificed their lives for the country's freedom.
Describing the tribal community as a simple and hardworking society, he said the state government is working for the development and protection of the tribal interests.
He spoke in detail about different programmes and schemes of the government meant to benefit the tribal society including farmers.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister announced a contribution of Rs 20 lakh to construct statues of four freedom fighters: Sukalu Ram Kadiam, Bisahu Ram Gaikwad, Pitamber Mandavi and Sarju Ram Mandavi.
He named the Government College at Gurur after tribal MLA Daran Bai Taram.
He announced Rs 50 lakh to renovate a tribal community hall, hike the 20 seats of pre-Matric Boys Hostel to 50, Rs 20 lakh for renovation work, Rs 10 lakh for a statue of martyr Veer Narayan Singh, beautification of Budha Talab in Balod and renovation of the Community Health Centre at Gurur.
