Scribe attacked by mob before Khariar PS

Saturday, 14 May 2022 | PNS | NUAPADA

A journalist of Nuapada district working for “Sakala” was mercilessly beaten by some miscreants in front of the Khariar police station on Thursday morning when victim Rabikanta Thela was coming out of the PS after taking some visuals and photographs relating to the death of a woman allegedly murdered by her husband. He said two groups were fighting each other when he started taking their pictures and they attacked him.

Ramesh Thandi and his wife Khiramani of Tukula village reportedly had a quarrel over dowry issue, following which Ramesh attacked Khiramani. As Khiramani fainted, Ramesh took her to hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

A police team under the leadership of Khariar SDPO Santak Jena apprehended Ramesh when he was escaping with dead body and brought them to the police station. Tension erupted when supporters of the deceased who had already gathered in the PS demanded immediate action against the culprit and fought with each other. Journalists Rabikanta and Rudraraj Bagh started taking picture. This enraged the miscreants, who attacked Rabikanta.

Journalists of the district staged a demonstration in front of the PS demanding arrest of the culprits. The SDPO informed that seven persons have already been detained in the case. "We have taken this case seriously, we will arrest all culprits within a very short time" said he.
