Sexagenarian gets 20-yr RI for raping minor

Special Judge POCSO Jagadish Prasad Mohanty convicting a rape accused awarded him 20 years jail term along with slapping Rs 20,000 penalty and in default another 2 years term here. 

 

It may be noted the case was a Red flag one and the court pronounced the verdict after examining 12 witnesses and 18 exhibited documents.

 

The incident occurred in Dagara village under Baliapal police station on May 16, 2018. The convict identified as Manmath Jena (63)  had committed sexual assault against the 10- year- old victim who is not only deaf and dumb but also mobility impaired.

 

On the day of occurrence the accused entered to her house in day hours when her parents were out for jobs sexually assaulted her. Subsequently, through signs she communicated her ordeals to her grandmother. The father of the victim lodged an FIR and a case was registered under section 376 (A),376(2)(I)  of IPC  and section 6 of POCSO. The accused was apprehended and he is in jail ever since.
