From Ghungroo and Tose Naina Lage to Malang and Khuda Jaane, Jamshedpur-born Bollywood Shilpa Rao added glitter to Loyola School’s Platinum Jubilee celebration through her melodies. She mesmerized the students and teachers with her performance.

Winner of Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer 2020, Shilpa gave a scintillating performance at her alma mater. On Thursday afternoon, she performed for junior students of Loyola at Fasy Auditorium while, in the evening a special show was organised for the junior students.

Shilpa belongs to a family of musicians and the versatility of the singer in her art is the result. She has given the music industry some of its gems like Javeda Zindagi (Anwar, 2007), Ek Lau (Aamir, 2008), Khuda Jaane (Bachna Ae Haseeno, 2008), and Manmarziyan (Lootera, 2013).

During that time, she met Hariharan who heard me sing once and felt that she should further nurture her talent. Hariharan introduced her to his guru Ghulam Mustafa Khan saab. It was only then that she started learning and practicing singing seriously.

He liked her voice and agreed to train her for some time. During this time Shilpa also started doing stage shows and it was during one such show in Hyderabad that she met Shankar Mahadevan. Shankar offered her to sing ad jingles with him. Later on she got her first break from Shankar Ehsaan Loy in Salaam-e-Ishq. Khudaa Jaane song from the film Bachna Ae Haseeno hit became an instant hit and she bagged the Star Screen Award for this song.

From a quiz contest, to cycling to musical shows to the performance of Bollywood singer Loyola alumnus Shilpa Rao, the school along with Loyola Alumni Association ( LAA) is making this milestone a gala affair.
