Sixth leg malaria elimination drive starts in Chhattisgarh

The sixth leg of the    malaria elimination drive commenced in    malaria-prone Bastar region in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.

The month-long drive organised by the Health Department and the National Health Mission (NHM) will conclude on June 16.

Under the drive, tests for cataract, tuberculosis and scabies will also be done, said an official communiqué.

A target of testing over 35 lakh people has been set under this drive, it said.

The drive is being       conducted in all the 32 blocks in 12 aspirational    districts, the statement said.

In the earlier five phases against malaria in Bastar and two-phased in the rest of the state, a total of 87.84 lakh tests were conducted.

The malaria positivity rate has considerably declined from 4.60 percent to 0.79 percent, the           statement added.
