Following a brief exchange of fire, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has nabbed a 38 year-old wanted criminal in southeast Delhi’s Badarpur area on Friday. Police said that a reward of Rs one lakh was also declared on information leading to his arrest.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Azmal alias Pahadi, a permanent resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh (UP).
Police said Pahadi is previously involved in a dozen criminal cases including of murder, attempt to murder, extortion, threatening, assault, hurt, trespass, theft, conspiracy, arms act among others registered in Delhi and UP during last 10 years.
Police said that he was wanted in a case of extortion in Nazibabad in Bijnaur and he was also absconding in a case of firing on the members of the team of Special Cell on October 15, 2020.
According to a senior police official, on June 24, a specific input was received that Pahadi would go towards Sarita Vihar metro station between 5.00 pm to 6.00 PM.
“Acting on the specific inputs, a trap was laind and around 5.50 PM Pahadi was spotted on a Hero Splender bike. He was signaled to stop by police team but Pahadi whipped out a pistol and fired four rounds towards the police team,” said senior police official.“In retaliation, the police team also fired three rounds in self defence and one bullet hit Pahadi in his right leg thigh.
