Inaugurating various sports facilities at the Priyadarshini Indira Stadium in Jagdalpur on Thursday, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said the newly-built sports ground will prove to be a milestone in shaping sports talents of Bastar.
These facilities will help the players to prepare for national and international levels, he said.
The Chief Minister dedicated Chhattisgarh's first Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) approved synthetic football ground with athletics running track.
FIFA has issued a certificate stating the ground to be of international standard. Baghel inaugurated it by shooting a ball into the goal.
A MoU was signed between Ardor Football Academy, Bhubaneshwar, Bastar District Football Association and Bastar District Administration. It was agreed to make football more popular at the grassroot level in Bastar.
On a request from children, Baghel took part in a race on the synthetic track running half the curve.
He tried playing lawn tennis with the players beginning with service shots. He then tried his hand in basketball.
Later, Baghel dedicated the gymnasium. He inspected the facilities. Weightlifter Suresh Kashyap showcased how to do the weightlifting snatch (event) before the Chief Minister.
Inaugurating the multipurpose hall, he played chess with Saksham Rao and boosted the morale of all prayers.
At the stadium premises, the Chief Minister inaugurated 19 development works worth Rs 44.54 crores and laid the foundation stone of eight development works to be completed at a cost of Rs 11.88 crores.
