The Indian Red Cross Society, State Branch, celebrated the World Blood Donor Day on Tuesday here. The theme for this year is 'Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives.'
A meeting was held to draw attention to the role of voluntary blood donors in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.
Honorary secretary, Red Cross State Branch, CTM Suguna presided and motivated the donors for the noble job. He appealed to the public for donating blood to attain 100% voluntary blood donation (VBD) to bridge the gap between the blood donors and blood needy.
To mark the day, a voluntary blood donation camp was also organised at the Red Cross Bhaban. Volunteers from different organisations like Panthan Trust, Benmoon Phrama etc joined the meeting and also donated blood. State Red Cross honorary treasurer Bhabani Prasad Nanda, joint secretary Debendra Prasad Dash and Dr Raghunath Beura were present. YRCO Ramesh Chandra Behera and JRCO Laxman Swain coordinated.
