Cases of heart and brain stroke multiply

The Covid-19 surge in Jharkhand continues, with the state recording 2449 new cases in the last 24 hours, while at the same time state recorded 4283 recoveries from infection.

As per the bulletin released by the health department on Thursday late night, the state recorded 2449 fresh cases with the total cases figure jumping to 415388. Out of a total 415388 cases, 384575 people have won the battle against the virus. The health bulletin released by the department also figures ten deaths on Thursday with East Singhbhum accounting for maximum deaths. In East Singhbhum, five persons died fighting infection, followed by two deaths in Dhanbad, while one person each died at Gumla, Jamtara and West Singhbhum respectively.

On Thursday, there was a corona death in the State Capital, but Ranchi accounted for maximum cases. At Ranchi in the past 24 hours, 757 cases were reported, at the same time 1210 recoveries from infection.

Meanwhile, experts have cautioned people about health risks due to fall in temperature and infection. Experts said that along with corona infection, cold is also making people ill. Cases of heart attack and brain stroke cases have increased in the past one month due to fall in temperature. Cases of both the diseases have gone up as compared to normal days.

Dr. Prakash Kumar, HOD of Cardiology Department of RIMS said that on normal days 12 to 14 patients with heart problems used to visit RIMS on daily basis, however, during winter the number has doubled to 25 to 30. He said that corona is also a reason behind the increase in the number, because after Covid, there was a complaint of thickening of the blood of the patients. At the same time, in the cold, the blood vessels start shrinking and due to the thickening of the blood, it does not flow properly in the body. It is also the main cause of heart attack.

Dr Prakash also said that cases of heart attack have increased by 60 percent. On an average, 39 patients are reaching the hospital daily for brain stroke. More than 50 patients of heart-related disease are admitted in the cardiology department of RIMS. Of these, about 85 percent have a complaint of heart attack. Cases of brain stroke too have gone up in the past few days due to corona infection and drop in temperature.

An officer with Indian Medical Association requesting anonymity said, “Though number of recoveries is more than fresh cases still we are not out of danger, as people with co-morbidities are taking time to recover and many times the infection is becoming fatal for them. In such a situation it is advisable that people take all precautions.”
