The Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch would take K Vicky Rao on remand for further interrogation in connection with the seizure of 3 kg of brown sugar and arms from Nayagarh district on January 25.
The Bhubaneswar SDJM Court granted permission to take Rao on remand for four days for custodial interrogation.
Notably, the STF had seized the contraband worth Rs 3 crore from a house at Sinduria village under the Nayagarh Town police station. Rao, a resident of Khordha, was arrested during the raid. But two others managed to elude the police dragnet.
Besides cash of Rs 65.32 lakh, three 7mm sophisticated pistols, 43 live rounds of ammunitions and a cash-counting machine were also seized from Rao.
The seizure of more than 3 kg brown sugar was the biggest drug haul by the STF so far in 2022. It was also for the first time that such a huge quantity of narcotics was seized from Nayagarh district.
However, the main accused of the drugs and arms racket, one Shib Prasad Das, is still at large.
