A student shot at the principal of his college for being admonished for his conduct when the latter was taking a round of classrooms in Sitapur on Saturday morning.
Principal Ram Singh Verma of Adarsh Ramswaroop Inter College in Sadarpur police station area suffered critical injuries and was referred to the Trauma Centre of King George’s Medical University in Lucknow.
The principal had intervened in a brawl between accused Gurvinder Singh and his rival student on Friday and admonished him.
As per reports, Gurvinder had a fight with fellow student Rohit on Friday and during the brawl he ransacked college’s property, inviting the ire of the principal who summoned both and reprimanded the accused for damaging college’s property and also beat up both the students.
Later, Gurvidner, who felt offended on being reprimanded, had reportedly told his classmates that he would shoot the principal on Saturday morning to avenge the insult. But the college administration did not take notice of his threats even though some of the students intimated them.
Around 8:30 am, Gurvinder stood up soon after he saw the principal entering the classroom and opened fire on him. He fired three rounds at the principal and was nabbed by the students when he was loading the fourth bullet in the gun. However, he freed himself from the students and escaped.
On getting information, a police team reached the college and rushed the victim to district hospital in Sitapur. The doctors there referred him to Lucknow.
Two police teams have been formed to nab Gurvinder after registering a case against him. Police also quizzed the student with whom the miscreant had a brawl to find out the cause behind the brawl.
