The Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress have announced their candidates for most of the Assembly constituencies. However, suspense still continues about some constituencies and the fate of some prominent leaders. One such leader is former Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyaya who had been removed from all posts by the Congress for “hobnobbing” with leaders of the BJP and other parties recently. This step has given rise to the speculation that he will be joining the BJP soon. However, uncertainty still persists on whether Upadhyaya will remain in the Congress or join the BJP. Reliable sources state that this suspense is likely to end within a couple of days. Meanwhile, both the Congress and BJP have not yet declared their candidates for Tehri constituency. Upadhyaya is a major contender for the Tehri constituency and currently said to be in Delhi. The BJP and Congress are stated to be weighing the pros and cons of fielding him from Tehri. The delay in a final decision has led to confusion among the party leaders and supporters who are still waiting for the candidate to support.
If sources are to be believed, Upadhyaya is miffed at some senior Congress leaders for not according him special attention. The experts in Tehri feel that he may contest on the Congress ticket even as talk about him joining the BJP is on the rise. When questioned on the whole issue, Upadhyaya said that he would speak on the issue soon. It remains to be seen when he will reveal his cards.
