Swati in news again for wrong reason

Tuesday, 25 January 2022 | PNS | Lucknow

Uttar Pradesh Minister for Women and Child Development, Swati Singh, is in the news for the wrong reason, once again.

This time an audio recording has gone viral on social media, wherein Swati is purportedly talking to a person who is heard complaining that her husband Daya Shankar Singh misbehaved with him and there was a case of land grabbing too.

However, ‘The Pioneer’ does not authenticate the genuineness of the audio.

During the conversation, Swati is heard accusing her husband Daya Shankar Singh of treating her badly and also of physical assault. Later, the high-profile minister pleads with the caller not to inform anyone of his conversation with her.

Meanwhile, all efforts to contact Swati Singh regarding the audio clip proved futile and the minister refused to respond to calls.

Swati Singh is a claimant of ticket from her Sarojininagar assembly seat that she won in 2017 while, her husband Daya Shankar Singh is also staking claim on the seat and is said to be lobbying for a BJP ticket.

Swati came into limelight in 2016 when Daya Shankar Singh made some objectionable remarks against Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati. After this, the BSP workers led by Naseemuddin Siddiqui held a huge protest in Lucknow where they made remarks against Swati Singh and her daughter. An incensed Swati lodged a report against the BSP leaders, including Mayawati, at Hazratganj police station. Daya Shankar Singh was expelled from the BJP and Swati was made chief of the party’s women’s wing.

Later, Swati Singh contested and won the Sarojininagar assembly seat and Daya Shankar Singh’s expulsion was withdrawn. He is now the vice-president of the state BJP unit.
